DAMSWEEK 2025

24/08/2025 until 29/08/2025 - CENTRO DE  EVENTOS BARRASHOPPINGSUL - Porto Alegre/RS

The Brazilian Committee on Dams (CBDB) declares as its institutional mission “to stimulate the development, application, and dissemination of the best technologies and practices in dam engineering and associated works.” To achieve this, it carries out various activities at both national and international levels, including the publication of books and journals, the offering of technical courses, the organization of meetings, workshops, and technical commission sessions, as well as large-scale events.

One such event is Damsweek 2025, CBDB’s annual national conference, which will take place in Porto Alegre, RS, from August 24 to 29, 2025.

As widely known, extreme rainfall in 2023 and 2024 caused severe flooding across much of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, particularly in Porto Alegre and its metropolitan region, resulting in significant social and economic consequences, loss of lives, and damage to property and infrastructure. In response to this emergency, CBDB established the "Special Technical Committee for Support to the State of Rio Grande do Sul," composed of experts, with the objective of providing technical assessments related to dam structures in the affected areas.

Given this unique scenario, the Special Technical Committee deemed it appropriate to propose Porto Alegre as the host city for Damsweek 2025. This decision aims to bring together the national dam engineering community in the region, fostering discussions and technical contributions toward effective protective systems against future extreme climate events.

It is important to highlight that the decisive participation of sponsoring and supporting companies and institutions in Damsweek 2025 is particularly noteworthy—not only for the prestige their institutional identities bring to the event but also for the essential financial support that makes its realization possible.

Finally, with Damsweek 2025, CBDB—relying on the participation of its individual and corporate members—continues to promote the advancement of national dam engineering, gathering professionals, academics, companies, and public and private institutions in the field, with the shared goal of enhancing methodologies and best practices in dam design, construction, operation, and maintenance, ensuring environmental sustainability and meeting the needs of society as a whole.
